Vocabulary

As well as after negative

Hi.
I want to know how does as well as work in negative sentence.

I was able to get a job with the Wooster-Thomas office in New York. This was in the cashier's cage, however, and I didn't like it nearly as well as the more active work of marking up boards.

Question:
Which interpretation is correct?

1:He didn't like this job as he liked his previous active work.(He liked his previous job but he didn't like this job.)
2:He didn't like his previous active work, either.

Top answer

Yes, it works fine in negative sentences. The meaning is that he liked both but he liked the board-marking job better.
