As well as

He wasn't able to "take care of her" as well as his father did his mother.

Which is the correct interpretation of this sentence?


(a) His father was able to take care of his mother, but he couldn't do such a thing for her.

(b) His father was not able to take care of his mother. Nor was he of her.
