As a pollice officer, my life is as valuable to me as criminals' lives.

Is the above correct and natural?

It's correct and natural, but it seems to me to be a very strange thought. Could you elaborate a bit, so I'm sure of what you mean to say? Are you sure you don't mean the opposite of what you've said here?

Are you sure you don't mean the opposite of what you've said here?

For example, "As a police officer, I hold the lives of the criminals I seek to thwart as dearly as I do my own." I know that sounds silly, but could you mean something like

Though I'm a police officer, I don't take killing criminals lightly.In other words, I won't open fire unless it's absolutely needed. To me, their lives are as valuable as my own.

Yes, as I suspected, you've put it backward.

The idea is that one might suspect you would naturally value your own life more than that of your adversaries. Or to put it more conveniently, you'd value their lives less than your own. But's that's not the case.

The problem with your version is that it's natural in this case for us to say we're raising

First I really appreciate your pointing out this mistake. I never knew this. I've always thought it resembles the equal sign like A equals B which is identical to B equals A.

so you are saying

A green apple is as nutritious as a red apple. ( means green apple is more nutritious?)

Not actually. All the versions discussed indicate the values are equal.

IF everybody always thought, and it seemed perfectly natural to assume, that red apples are WAY more nutritious than green ones, you would not say, "Hey, red ones are just as nutritious as green ones," thereby lowering the value of the red ones. You would say, "Hey, green ones are just as nutri
