As understand them to be?

Hi! everyone.
Could you tell me whether there is something missing in the following sentence? I don' get it. Could someone clarify it?
"Aspects of Buddhism as I understand them to be"
Shouldn't it have been "Aspects of Buddhism as I understand them" ?Why is there "to be" at the end?
It's causing me a lot of confusion.
