As & Though

Good afternoon everyone;

"When Tommy first moved to London he was very lonely. But as he made friends, though, he enjoyed the city more and more."

This is a sentence from the Japanese English test EIKEN level 2. I was asked by my teachers to explain the "AS" and "THOUGH" in the sentence because it the placement and simultanious usage in one sentence threw them, and me for a grammatical loop.

I eaplained that the "AS" was an adverb because it added to "MAKE FRIENDS" and the the "THOUGH" was acting as a conjunction & adverb.

Is my explination good? Is this even a grammaticly correct sentsnce to brgin with? Please help and give me any advice you can.

Thanks;

Austin
