As soon as you mention the word wrinkle,

1. As soon as you would mention the word wrinkle, the middle-aged actress would fall into a state of histrionic tears.

I think #1 is a conditional sentence.
If so, I'd like to know the meaning difference between as in #1, using "would" and using "should."
