As recent as?

Hello, could you please let me know whether the following sentence is correct?

As recent as early September, most financial exprts projected that the Fed would choose an exit strategy.

I think "as recent as" should be changed to "as recently as."

However, I found another sentence as follows while googling:

Dinosaurs Lived as Recent as 33,000 Years Ago, According to New Archaeological Evidence.
