As part of the pre- and post-surgery protocol

In a book about homeopathic medicines the author wrote something like this:
"I've had some dramatic results with Arnica (homeopathic medicine)and Calendula (homeopathic medicine)as part of the pre- and post-surgery protocol described on page X"
I just take it to mean that by using Arnica and Calendula she achieved great results both in the pre op treatment and post op treatment, but maybe this is not what the author is saying?
