As one

Could I use as one? Or rather, does it make sense?

-Needing a sense of affinity causes a person to feel comfortable for being __ with another.

The OALD says as one means in agreement, so I consider it OK, but my friend objects, saying that a dictionary meaning seemingly fitting in a sentence doesn't always mean it's OK and that as one makes no sense. Do you agree with me or my friend?

The sentence as a whole seems somewhat nebulous and unsatisfactory to me. I would try to find an overall clearer way of saying what you mean.

I am not sure about "needing"; you definitely need to take out the "for" after "comfortable", and think about using a different word instead o

Thank you for the detailed answer. But may I ask, do you use UK or US English as your 1st language?(I've looked through the profile, but I think it doesn't hurt to know more about our experts here.)

Ok thanks Otto. I wouldn't describe myself as an expert as I have only 1 year of teaching experience.

I'm from London. Where there are differences in usage and vocabulary between the UK and US, I would opt for or default to the UK version.

On your question, I can't imagine that there is a difference between UK and US usages, or at least there is none that I'm aware of. If I
