As of today or today?

I want to know the correct word to be used in this sentence:

The list of the issues found today.

vs

The list of the issues found as of today.

Please explain the difference between these two sentences. Which one would be correct?

I take "The list of the issues found today." to mean that the process of searching for issues started and ended today.

I take "The list of the issues found as of today." to have been an ongoing process that started some time ago and ended today.

This sounds to me like you expect to find more in the future, eg tomorrow.
