As my staff increased, so did the politics.

Hi

Would you say that these sentences are natural?

  1. As the staff increased, so did the politics in the department.
  2. As the staff became bigger, the problems multiplied in the office.
  3. The bigger the staff, the more the politics.
  4. The larger the staff, the more the problems.
  5. As the staff expanded, the problems in the office multiplied.

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Personally, I'd avoid or modify 2, 3, 4 and 5. The problem with the members of staff getting bigger, larger or expanding is that it creates the image of the individuals each getting larger - perhaps because they have been eating too much. 'Increasing' is good.
