as mush as v.s. as much of as

1) I can take as much beer as he.
2) I can take as much of beer as he.


QUESTION:

Are both sentences in quesiton correct (Isn't it wrong to omit 'can' at the end of both sentences?) and if so, do they mean the same thing?
