This sentence was said :
The best player on the opposing team gets injured

1 As much as the home team has seen him (player injured) torture them, they are still concerned for his health.

I've heard "as much as x hates... , they are still concerned for...
Don't you usuall have to use 'hate' or 'love/like'?

Is sentence 1 natural?

It's fine. "As much as" means "even considering that."

The words have to be parallel if you use "as" in both clauses:

They are as concerned for his health as much as they hate him

You can measure their mental state
