As long as

We find it hard to get back to normal life as long as the coronavirus exists.

Are "as long as" and "exists" correct here?

Top answer

Present tense "find" does not fit well with "as long as". This would be more expected: We will find it hard to get back to normal life as long as (the) coronavirus exists. Use of the bracketed article seems mixed, though I would omit it.

  • For example, an effective vaccine or treatment could be developed, and then we could get back to normal even though the virus would presumably continue to exist .
