Hello.

I would like to know the uagae of "as long as".

Do you think that "as long as" is used as a preposition as in?

He has been ill in bed as long as three years.

I think 'as...as' is just a comparative form:

He's been ill less than 3 years.

He's been ill as long as 3 years.

He's been ill more than 3 years.
