As long as

Hi,

Can we use 'as long as' in this manner: his campaign was going to be a disaster as long as populism was its slogan.

Is this okay, and must I make some adjustments in the second clause such as: ... populism remained its slogan or ... populism was going to be its slogan. Is it necessary that I change the verb 'was' (after populism) to something else?

Thanks,

Hi Anon, The word 'was' is fine. I'm not sure I would refer to populism as a slogan, though. I might refer to populism as a philosophy or as a doctrine.

Thank you, Y. Is 'if' also okay instead of 'as long as'?
