Do you leave in the A please?

1 Try to make as little A mess as possible.
2 Try to make as little A noise as possible.

I'm pretty sure you keep it in 2 and not in 1.
why?

Use the a if you conceptualize the following noun as countable. Otherwise, leave out the a.

Since both mess and noise can be conceptualized either way, you may use a or not in each case. It depends on what is in your mind when you make the statement.
