"As it were" and "so to speak"

Hi

I apologize if I have asked this question before.

Would you say that these expressions carry the same meaning?

As it were

So to speak

Are these sentences OK? Any suggestions are welcome.

By passing comments like this, you only sound like a pompous fool, as it were.

Thanks, Clive! Do you find these sentences OK?

[Boy to his younger brother]

You've broken Mother's favourite vase. Now you're in deep trouble, so to speak.

They're the same. You can add, "in a manner of speaking" to your collection.

Your sentences are okay. The additional phrases serve to blunt the insult.

It would perhaps be more common to use them following a less obvious statement, or one in which the meaning of the preceding phrase must be pondered.
