As is the case with=as with?

Hi. 1 is from a dictionary and 2 is my version. Is 2 natural? If not, why?And do 1 and 2 mean the same thing?
As is the case with many men, he seemed to be having a midlife crisis.
As with many men, he seemed to be having a midlife crisis.

And generally, do “as with” and “as is the case with” mean the same thing? And can I understand the phrase “as with” as a reduced version of “as is the case with”?

Thank you.
