Grammar

As 'is' known VS As 'it is' knonw

1a) As [is] known to everybody, there are certain trace elements in our body which are required to keep us in good health.

1b) As [it is] known to everybody, there are certain trace elements in our body which are required to keep us in good health.
----------------------
I knew intuitively that 1a) is grammatically correct, but 1b) is grammatically incorrect.

But I don't know how to explain 1b) is grammatically wrong, and use of 'as' in these sentences(as an relative pronoun, conjunction..etc)

So please, how can I explain 1b) is grammatically wrong?

Thank you for reading.

CalifJimAs it is known, certain elements are necessary for good health.
Can "As" be taken as an conjunction (a sort of 'at the same time/while') in the above thus making it grammatical?

I can't say that I find that interpretation "a sure thing". I'm not convinced.
