as if subjunctive mood vs. as if indicative mood.

Hi, I'm not an English native speaker.
While I studied English grammar, I came to a standstill.

Regarding "as if subjunctive mood", I don't have any trouble understing following sentences.

He talks as if he knew something.
He talks as if he had known something.
He talked as if he had known someting.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But, what is your opinion concerning the sentence below.

"He talked as if he knew something."

(1) Do you think the sentence "as if subjunctive mood"

(2) Do you think the sentence "as if indicative mood"

(3) Nobody knows whether it is "as if subjunctive mood" or "as indicative mood" except the writer whose intention cannot be interpreted by third party.

(4) If the sentence appears in the official English exam (ex. Toefl, Toeic, and so on), might it be the object of controversy?

janghoony(1) Do you think the sentence "as if subjunctive mood"
"as if" always indicates a counterfactual situation. It is usually followed by the subjunctive mood of the verb, but this is not mandatory.

He spends money as if he is / were rich.
