As If/ As Though

Hello all.

Please imagine I'm talking to my friend and trying to make fun of him. Which tense would be correct?

Thanks.

AlpheccaStarswhen I was kid.
Is it more informal without an indefinite article?

Used to is a bit redundant, and the article is absolutely necessary.

I was a poor tennis player when I was a kid.

Sorry, I missed correcting this mistake. The indefinite article is required.
