As I walked or as I was walking

Hi. What is the difference?

1. As I walked forward it, I spotted a coin.

2. As I was walking forward it, I spotted a coin.

Top answer

Both are bad, but I have fixed them, and there is no difference in intent; #2 slightly relegates the action of walking to the background. 1. As I walked toward it, I spotted a coin.
