As grotesque and sordid a family tree...

I'm upset that he threw me away. As grotesque and sordid a family
tree as I've just inherited, I... wasn't good enough.
This sentence doesn't sound
right. Is she saying she wasn't good enough to be a family member even though
her family was grotesque and sordid?

No, she's saying that his family is grotesque and sordid - in other words, "who are they (being trash) to reject her!"
