AS GOOD AS

Could you say the following:

  • The house looks as good as (it did) when I moved in. I better get my deposit back

  • The house is just as messy as (it was) when I moved in. I better get my deposit back
and can you leave out the (I DID) in each sentence?

Thank you

Hi Clive

The house looks as good as (it did) when I moved in. I better get my deposit back.
The house is just as messy as (it was) when I moved in. I better get my deposit back.

Just to confirm: I think it should be "I'd better..." Many non-native speakers, I believe, say "I better...", leaving out the 'had'.

Thanks.

Hi,

Many non-native speakers, I believe, say "I better...", leaving out the 'had'.

Many native speakers, too. Including me. It's a common, and I'd even say normal, form of relaxed speech.

Best wishes, Clive
