As far as in (a place)/ as far as (a place)

The scenes of the play are laid as far away as in Peru.

The scenes of the play are laid as far away as Peru.

Which one is correct? However I think it's the second one that is correct but I'm doubtful !

This is correct in a context where some of the scenes are laid in places that are not as far away as Peru.


Consider this simple example.
