As conditioned

On the Dictionary.com, it says:

person

noun

Sociology. an individual human being, especially with reference to his or her social relationships and behavioral patterns as conditioned by the culture.

----

If I say these below, are both of them acceptable?

  1. '...as are conditioned by the culture.'
  2. '...as they are conditioned by the culture.'

User Matthew Wai said #2 is acceptable, but I would think #1 is also acceptable.

What do you think?
