1 He's such a good actor. He's as funny as he is serious. He can do comedies just as he can do thriller.
2 Can a dog tell who's a child and who's an adult./who the adult is and who the child is?
Can a dog distinguish between children and adults.
3 I can see the skyscraper from 3 miles out/away.

The reason you put in well is because you want to make it clear what he's doing. He's doing it well, so it makes the sentence more clear. With the addition of well, it sounds more natural to a native English speaker.

OK but I'm not trying to say he does both comedies and thrillers well but that he does them.
like if you can say
He loves me just as I love him.
so why could you say
He can do comedies just like/as he can do thriller.
