As am I/as I am

You are smart, as am I and everyone else ...

--- Should it be "as am I" or "as I am"?

Top answer

Here it should be "as am I". There may be a question about whether "am" agrees with "I and everyone else", but "are" doesn't sound good to me. "You are smart, as I am" would be OK by itself.
