Some commentators argue that as a part of learning a foreign language, learners should spend several months learning its language and culture by living overseas. Personally, I completely disagree with this point of view.
It’s undeniable that a few months spent in another country would create a golden chance for students to learn new cultures and languages by immersing themselves in the language. Nevertheless, they possibly forget one thing: we can immerse ourselves in language everywhere- no matter where in the world. We can start to fit our language studies into regular routine, but nothing else has to change. The familiarity of the job, our neighborhood, friends, and life, in general, is still there. For instance, by changing all language settings in social media to our target language, we can easily adapt and dip into linguistic. In addition, we also know we need to put forth active effort from day one—not after few months of passively learning overseas.
At the same, not everyone has the finances to studying abroad. Moving to another country, from dealing with culture shock to adapting to workplace dynamics even the most simple tasks like buying our personal item is complicated while we can just easily learning the language at your comfort home with an Internet connection, easier and cheaper. Many students gave up and want to come back to their native country since not only experienced homesick feeling and anxiety they also have to bear the financial burden from hometown. Only a few can overcome the difficulties and study abroad because they have financial backup without any worry.
In conclusion, I believe that it’s often challenging for students to studying language in a foreign country but learning at home is feasible not only in commercial but also learning process.
