As a high school student it is

My sentences:

-As a high school student, you have to memorise all the dates for exams. It is very important.

1. Is FOR correct English?

2. Is it correct to say IT rather than THEY, which pronoun should refer to DATES, which word is in the plural form? I think it is OK to use IT, as an ellipsis:

-It is very important to do so/to memorise all the dates for exams.

Thank you. OJ.
