I've got the sentence: "Friday will be a bad day for me - I have a press conference. I wish your mother were coming/came on Saturday or Sunday. But I know it's not your fault." Which form is better were coming or came? And why?

"coming" is the correct form. it's the future continuous time

Thanks for the answer. I've found the sentence in a multiple-choice test but unfortunately, your option wasn't given there. According to the answer key the correct form is 'were coming' but I don't know why.

Sorry, Ayadi, but that's not correct. You cannot say *"I wish your mother will be coming...

artur17According to the answer key the correct form is 'were coming' but I don't know why.
If you check my reply, you'll see that I did say that "were coming" is OK". It's really a matter of personal choice, and perhaps dependent on the context. Personally, I prefer "were coming", but rest assured that "was coming" is also perfectly acceptable.
