Hi, In N. America, people speak of such a cinema as 'an art house'. The term 'a cinema' is seldom used in NAmE, the phrase is 'a movie theatre', or increasingly, just 'a theatre'.

We have "Indie films" here in the U.S. ("Indie" is short for "Independent"). We even have a cable television network - called The Sundance Channel - that is dedicated to them. The theaters that show such films are called "art-house theaters".

Edit: Beaten to the punch while looking up the exact term.
