Artificial light

Hi everyone,

1)I was wondering if you could help me with these two sentences.

"I caught up with the runner in front of me." I want to say that I was running behind someone but I managed to increase the pace and I ended up running next to them. I know that 'catch up with' means to hang out with someone you haven't seen for a while but I didn't know what else to use.

2)Some colours look different under artificial light/in artificial light/in artificial lighting.

Which one of these is correct?

Thank you!
