Articulate as an intransitive verb?

I know that it can be used as a transitive verb, like : I couldn't articulate my fears. But is it okay to use it as an intransitive verb, or will it sound odd?

For example: He went on to articulate in his own inimitable style.

In the above, articulate has no object ... does it sound odd because of that?

Thank you,
John
