Articles with general+proper nouns

Do we use the definite article in pharses like
(the) poet Byron?
(the) slave Kolomon? (that's my case - a khan asks for his slave to be sent to him, so he says, "Send (the) slave Kolomon to me".
Is that usable at all? I just doubt that variant like "Kolomon the Slave" are OK in every context.
