Articles -the

Hello,

It has been taught that use 'the' article before the name of rivers, mountain ranges, oceans, seas etc, but not before lake.

1. I will go on a cruise down the Nile.

I got some where while reading in internet :-

2. Nile is one of the longest rivers. (Not “The Nile")

It says don't use 'the' before proper noun.

Is the second one correct?

Thanks.
