Would you keep or leave out the "the" in the parenthesis in each of the sentence below? I keep seeing the words "management" and "development" both with and without a definite article in contexts like these, so both versions might be acceptable. But I would like to know which sounds better and why. Or is it just a matter of taste?
1) Nearly 200 nurses serving at the ABC Hospita ended their three-day strike late Sunday after (the) hospital management agreed to partially fulfill their demands for more benefits.
2) On that day, I got a phone call saying that the GUI part of my code had some bugs and glitches. And all hell was breaking loose out there, as name collisions and ambiguities brought (the) development to its knees.
