Articles an artist or the artist?

Hi. I am writing about how Anais Nin conceptualises, and here is my problem, the arist or an artist and their role in the society? and she does not refer to any specific artist but artists in general. Here are some examples of the sentences:

She claims that the artist serves the society but does it in his [sic] own way.

In Diary IV she compares the artist’s world...

are they correct or rather an artist serves society.

By the way, replacing the artist with plural artists is not a good option

Thanks for your help

All the best

AnonymousShe claims that the artist serves the society but does it in his [sic] own way. I'd follow her lead, and use "The artist and his role in society."
