It is known that the definite article 'the' is not used with the names of the lakes when it is wrtiten like this, 'Lake Baikal', 'Lake Ontario', 'Lake Tanganyika' etc. But do you need to use the definite article when it is shortened to 'Baikal', 'Ontario', 'Tanganyika'? Or is the correct variant: 'The Baikal', "The Ontario', "The Tanganyika'?

Thanks in advance for you help!
