Hi,
1. Please tell me if the ariticles are modifying all of them or just a part of them?

Then pair up with someone from the opposite sex and different culture if possible. -- is "the" modifying "sex" and "culture"? I think we can have "different" with an uncountable noun.

It is used about a liquid, gas, or light. -- Of three, I have a problem with the word 'light'. Is 'a' modifying 'light' too?

2. Which is better?

There is/I have a red and a blue pen.
