Article with toothache

hello,

Is it wrong in British English to say I have got a toothache? I remember someone telling me that one must not use 'a' before toothache.Rather, one should use 'an aching tooth'.

I know they use 'a' before toothache in the USA.

I'm sure some people say it in BrE too, and it would not normally be considered an error. Personally I would say "I've got toothache".

That's odd and unusual.
