Article with automotive parts

Teachers,

I am describing the interior of a car (in writing).

- The panel behind the steering wheel is known as a/the dashboard.

- The storage compartment at the back of the car is called a/the trunk.

- The pipe at the back is an/the exhaust pipe.

Can either article be used in such examples? I don't see a big difference either way. Thank you.
