Article use in procedural part of a group/classroom activity

Hi. Please help me with these. The following deals mostly with the procedural parts of group or classroom activities.

1. After that, have them stand in front of (the) class and explain how they made/have made it. -- Why do we need to have the definite article "the" before the word "class"? Or do we?

2. Form groups of five or six (could be adjusted depending on a class). -- Could we use the phrase "a class" here? Or shoud we use the phrase "a class size"?

3. This activity is carried out in references to day, month and year. -- could we use the words "day", "month" and "year" without the English articles? I think we can have sentences where what normally are countable nouns are used as uncountable nouns.

eg,

(in a play)

John, you are farmer in this play.

Or here,

I think he has a little bit of pop star in him.
