Article The before fires and explosions that we know of

On April 26, 1986,  fires and explosions following an unauthorized experiment caused the worst accident in the history of nuclear power at the nuclear power plant in Chernobyl, Ukraine.

1. Why not "the fires and explosion" in the first line as we are talking about the specific fires and explosions that is the ones that occurred following the explosion?
2. Why not "the unauthorised experiment" as we are talking about the specific experiment , that is the one that caused the disaster?

The reader doesn't know about the dishes yet so why not "I wash dishes" . Why do we use "the" to specify certain dishes in sentences like these while not in case of "fire and explosions" since there were still spe
