Does the following sentence with the two articles ('the e-mail' and 'the phone') sound awkward? Is the sentence grammatically wrong?

A preferred means of communication is the e-mail not the phone.

So is it okay to use article 'the' with 'e-mail' and 'phone'?
How about the following sentence?

A popular means of transportation is the train not the bus.

It is really difficult for me to use articles correctly, so I appreciate a reply from a native speaker of English like you.

So once again, there is no grammatical mistake in this sentence, correct?

Is it OK to say "The e-mail is popular"? Like we say, "The Internet is popular"?
