ARTICLE "THE"

Hello,

I was surfing on net for article and got that the racticle "the" is not used with name of indivisual montain like " Mount Everest". But somewhere I also read the Mount Everest.

What is the correct? Should we use "the" befor Mount Everest.

Thanks.

On Google, the usage frequencies are as follows. "The Mount Everest is …" : 217 hits "Mount Everest is …" : 39,200 hits. I don’t think there is any logical reason that disapproves "The Mount Everest".

  • I think we should not say so just because English speaking people do not say so.

Some proper nouns take the article 'the' and some don't. Mountains are often preceded by 'mount' or simply nothing, eg 'Ben Nevis'.
