Article question - guidance

Hi,

Please refer to the following text by a native English speaker. I have two questions about it.

1. Articles before ‘guidance’ – The author has used articles in two of the three cases. Is she treating the term ‘2009 production guidance’ as a noun term?

2. Why the author did not use ‘the’ before ‘company’ at the beginning of the sentence?

Company has lowered 2009 production guidance from Domi to approx. 300,000 meter, compared to the previous guidance of 560,000 meters. The reduction in linen production guidance is due to the deferred access to….”

Thanks,

MG.

Your Q1 does not match what is in the sentence. 'Company' is wrong without the article. I would expect: " The company has lowered the 2009 production guidance from Domi to approx.

MM,

Thanks a lot.
Mister MicawberYour Q1 does not match what is in the sentence.

Note that there was no article before the phrase '2009 production guidance' in the original sentence.

Also there was no article before the phrase ' linen production guidance'

My question was why the author did not use any article before these

'Noun phrase' has nothing to do with article use, MG– it is a matter of whether the head noun is countable or uncountable. I guess she considers 'guidance' uncountable; unfortunately, 'country' is not.
