Article question

Hi friends, this question is unresolved for me...

Let's say you were invited to a friend's//coworker's cottage for the weekend. I ask you what you're doing this weekend. Would you say:

1. I am going to a cottage.

2. I am going to the cottage.

I hear native speakers use "the" all the time. But does "the" not suggest that you own the cottage? On the other hand, I never heard "a cottage" by native speakers.

What's your opinion?
