Hi,



Which one of the following sentences sounds better to you? I am not sure if I should use the highlighted article.



1. Coupled with the lingering effects of the global recession, fears are mounting that a number of British companies will be scooped up by foreigners.

The tone of the sentence seems to indicate the effects in aggregate, not just a portion of them.
